Using the Profit Calculator

Learn how to estimate profit, margin, and ROI and review the fees applied to an Amazon listing.

Written by Patrick Widdoss

The Profit Calculator lets you see how changes to a listing’s price and costs could affect its estimated profit.

The Profit Calculator is currently available for Amazon listings.

How do I open the Profit Calculator?

  1. Open the Listings page.

  2. Find the listing you want to review.

  3. Click the profit shown on the page for that item. You can also access it by clicking the pencil icon and then "Profit Calculator" in the Listing Control Panel.

You can then adjust the following values:

  • Item Price

  • Shipping

  • Cost

  • Additional Cost

The calculator updates automatically as you change these values. You can test different values without changing the listing.

What does the Profit Calculator show?

The calculator displays the listing’s estimated:

  • Profit

  • Profit margin

  • Return on investment

The calculations use the following values:

  • Landed Price: The item price plus shipping.

  • Profit: The landed price minus the product cost, additional cost, and estimated marketplace fees.

  • Profit Margin: The percentage of the landed price remaining as profit.

  • ROI: The profit shown as a percentage of the product cost and additional cost.

How can I review the fees?

The Fees section shows the estimated fees included in the profit calculation. This will include the Marketplace Fee and, if it's FBA, the FBA Fee.

Select Additional details to view more information about the fee calculation. For FBA listings, this may include the available FBA fee tiers and the tier currently marked as Applied.

This can help you see which Low-Price FBA, mid-tier, or standard fee is being applied to the calculation.

You may also see details about the referral fee structure and other marketplace fees that apply to the listing.

Fee structures and thresholds can vary by marketplace and product.

What happens if I save my changes?

You can use the calculator to test different values without saving them. If you save an updated cost or an additional cost, the new value will be saved to the listing.

If you save a new price, you’ll be asked to confirm the change before the listing is manually updated to that price.

Saving a price from the Profit Calculator does not change the listing’s strategy or minimum and maximum prices.

Why isn’t a profit calculation shown?

A cost is required to calculate profit, margin, and ROI. If the listing does not have a cost, select Set Cost and enter the amount you paid for the product. You can also include any other per-unit expenses under Additional Cost.
