Get the Buy Box strategy

Learn how the self-learning Get the Buy Box strategy works, how to choose a stance, and how CPT, eligibility, and backordered inventory affect repricing.

Written by Patrick Widdoss

Get the Buy Box is a self-learning Amazon repricing strategy that adjusts each listing’s price within your minimum and maximum prices to pursue and hold the Buy Box. Amazon also refers to the Buy Box as the Featured Offer.

Each listing learns separately. As the strategy gathers information about a listing and its competitive landscape, it adapts its pricing decisions to how that market behaves.

How does Get the Buy Box work?

When you do not have the Buy Box, Get the Buy Box evaluates your offer and the current Buy Box offer. The strategy uses your selected stance to determine how aggressively it should adjust your price.

When you hold the Buy Box, the strategy looks for opportunities to raise your price while maintaining the Buy Box. Your minimum and maximum prices always apply.

Which stance should I choose?

The Stance setting controls how aggressively the strategy pursues the Buy Box.

Defend

Defend adjusts prices slowly toward expected Buy Box prices without undercutting. If the targeted price does not win the Buy Box, the strategy will not continue decreasing your price.

Choose Defend when margin protection is more important than aggressively pursuing the Buy Box.

Compete

Compete is the default stance. It balances repricing speed with margin protection.

The strategy continues decreasing your price within your minimum and maximum prices until your offer receives at least a share of the Buy Box.

Dominate

Dominate adjusts prices more aggressively and continues decreasing your price until your offer holds the Buy Box exclusively, even if you already share it with another seller.

This stance may reach your minimum price faster when competition is active. Dominate uses the Exclusive behavior for Don’t Lower My Price When I Have the Buy Box.

How does CPT affect Get the Buy Box?

When Amazon provides a Competitive Price Threshold, Get the Buy Box considers it when lowering and raising your price.

With Dominate, your price moves to the CPT or the closest allowed price within your minimum and maximum prices. With Defend and Compete, your price moves down gradually instead.

When raising your price while you hold the Buy Box, Informed Repricer will not raise it above the CPT. If the current Buy Box offer is already above the CPT, Informed Repricer disregards the CPT for that listing.

Your minimum and maximum prices always take priority. See What is CPT? for more information.

What happens if my listing is not Buy Box eligible?

Get the Buy Box only works as intended when your offer is eligible to win the Buy Box. An ineligible listing may continue decreasing until it reaches its minimum price without winning.

On the Listings page, set the Buy Box Status filter to Not Buy Box Eligible to find affected listings.

How does Get the Buy Box handle backordered listings?

When Get the Buy Box detects that your listing is backordered, it makes an initial price change to align with the current Buy Box competitor. The strategy will not continue lowering your price while the listing remains backordered.

If you still do not have the Buy Box after the listing is no longer backordered, the strategy resumes lowering your price as needed. Seller Fulfilled Prime listings are treated the same as FBA listings.

See Backordered listings for more information.
